What can be beds made of chipboard, material characteristics

Chipboard is a laminated chipboard, impregnated with special compounds. This material is very light in comparison with wood, so the bed made of chipboard is more mobile than wood. In addition, the material has excellent characteristics: moisture resistance, strength, affordable cost. These qualities have made such products very popular among buyers.

What is the material

Chipboard is a material that is made on the basis of natural wood. It is a chipboard, but with better grinding, with a melamine film. The main difference is the coating that is used on the board for pressing. This addition makes the material more durable, moisture resistant. The price of loose raw materials is low, but the design, due to the coating, can be the most diverse (with a picture of wood, different colors).

Manufacturers strictly monitor the safety of the material, bringing the percentage of formaldehydes to a minimum. Some classes of chipboard in environmental cleanliness are not inferior to natural wood.

Material textures can be as follows:

  • vector patterns;
  • geometric;
  • ornaments;
  • imitation of a natural tree.

Unfortunately, the material has significant drawbacks. It releases toxic formaldehydes into the air, as the resin is absorbed into the decorative coating. The way out of the situation is lamination, which is a film of paper with decor with a density of 60-90 g / sq m. Lamination is the placement of the coating under high pressure and temperature. The process takes place in the press, where the paper is made very dense, like plastic. A glossy film appears at the top, and at the bottom, but with glue. The coating is durable, the resin spreads over the surface of the particle board under a pressure of 25-28 MPa and at t reaching 210 degrees. When laminating from the material harmful aldehydes do not evaporate.

The particle board from which the beds are made has many advantages:

  • safety - material made from shavings and sawdust as a binder has formaldehydes that are harmful to humans. LDSP due to the laminated layer does not emit a harmful substance;
  • rigidity, material strength - the laminated film is made of paper with the necessary structure. A high level of rigidity, the necessary friability are achieved due to its impregnation with melamine resin. Pressing connects the boards to the film to produce a material having a standard thickness;
  • resistance to mechanical and thermal damage. Scratches and chips rarely occur on the material; it is not afraid of temperature changes and touch of hot objects;
  • easy care - products do not require special care products. It is enough to wipe the bed with a damp sponge so that the product becomes clean;
  • moisture resistance - the melamine film reliably protects the structure of the chipboard from moisture, protecting the material from decay and mold;
  • affordable cost - products are cheaper compared to models made of natural wood.

Along with positive qualities, there are also disadvantages. It is impossible to fine-tune chipboard, and the presence of formaldehydes is also a disadvantage.

Existing Model Options

The bed from chipboard is made in a variety of configurations: circle, rhombus, oval, rectangle. Models come in four legs, with drawers, lifting devices.Durable and easy to process material, compared with wood, allows you to make any shape and size of the bed from it. To work with chipboard does not require special sophisticated equipment, products can be made with your own hands, having a drawing of the design of the bed.

Options for completing additional elements

Beds made of chipboard are equipped with various additional functional elements. A large number of products are equipped with convenient drawers for linen, large niches located on the side or in the front.

The presence of boxes and niches in the design of the bed is very relevant for housing a small area.

Practicality and functionality are inherent in models with folding devices. Spacious storage space opens after lifting the base of the product. Here you can put not only bedding, but also various things, clothes, shoes. Additional details in beds significantly save the area in the bedroom. Having such beds, extra chiffoniers and dressers are not required.

Often, beds made of chipboard have legs that affect the height of the product. The legs are made of various materials (for example, metal with a surface of chrome), have a different configuration, height and width.

Multifunctionality and convenience are given to beds by bedside tables. Usually they are a continuation of the headboard and furniture frame. Bedside tables are made in the same style as the bed itself.

Sleeping furniture is made with or without headboards. Headboards most often have soft backs covered with a variety of materials, including leather, leatherette, and textiles. The forms of the head are also made different. Beds are standard, the backs of which have an average height and a shape in the form of a rectangle or square. Increasingly, there are specimens with original curly forms of the head.

Often, owners of small apartments purchase a compact ottoman bed from chipboard. Products are available with lifting devices and drawers for linen. Compartments for bedding are open or closed. Such models take up very little space in the room. The most popular beds are single models or one-and-a-half, the low cost of which relates to the advantages of products.
