Geranium is on the list of the most popular indoor plants. This beautiful, hardy and unpretentious flower can be found on window sills in many houses of the country. In the wild, geranium grows on the southern slopes (meadows of Europe). This is an annual or perennial plant, the stem of which can reach 50 cm. The leaves have a rich dark green hue, have a fresh aroma with mint and lemon notes. Also on the leaves there is a white border or stripes. The flowers are small, collected in inflorescences.

The healing properties of leaves

In addition to its beautiful appearance, the plant has a number of proven medical properties.:

  • diuretic;
  • hypoglycemic;
  • antiseptic;
  • relief of inflammation;
  • analgesic effect (analgesia);
  • disinfection and disinfection (an obstacle to the formation of pus);
  • stimulation of interferon production.

Geranium leaves contain phytoncides - elements have antibacterial activity (inhibit the formation of staphylococci). Gallic acid, starch, pectins and tannins are distinguished from other chemicals in the composition. Preparations with geraniums have an astringent effect, activate the elimination of toxins, help in stopping bleeding. The plant is also useful for people with chronic pathologies of the heart and gastrointestinal tract.

The plant also has a calming effect, which is important for normalizing sleep during exacerbation of otitis media.

When to apply?

  1. Acute otitis media different etiologies (especially with severe shooting pains).
  2. Chronic otitis media - Geranium quickly stops the attack.
  3. Tubootitis - inflammation of the middle ear and auditory tube.

The easiest and most common way to reduce pain in the ear is to pluck a sheet of geranium, rinse it, curl it up and gently insert it into the auricle. Volatile in the composition will have a facilitating effect. To enhance the effect from above, you can apply a compress. Change sheet every 3-4 hours. Pain and discomfort will go away in 20-40 minutes.

To prepare a warming compress, it is recommended to use an oil extractor. To do this, grind the leaves and mix them with oil (olive or sunflower) in a ratio of 1: 2. Soak the swab with the product and carefully place in the ear.

A variety of recipes for cooking at home

  1. Take 10 fresh leaves, add 40 g of oatmeal (or buckwheat), 1 tsp. alcohol. Grind the leaves to a pulp consistency. Next, mix the steep dough from the ingredients, form a roller out of it and cover them with the area around the diseased ear. Top with a handkerchief. Keep the compress until morning.
  2. Chop the stalk, add sunflower oil and leave for 7-9 days. Ready-made composition to use for compresses.
  3. Squeeze juice from 2-3 leaves, add 1 tbsp. water. Dip a cotton wool in the resulting solution and place in the ear overnight.
  4. With tubootitis, a decoction of geraniums needs to be washed in the nasopharynx to stop the spread of infection. To prepare 15-20 leaves of the plant, pour steep boiling water, leave for 10 hours. Rinse your nose 3 times a day.
  5. To prevent attacks of chronic otitis media, you need to prepare a tincture for oral administration. 1 tbsp pour the dried sheet with boiling water (250 ml), put in a water bath. Then remove from heat and insist 60 minutes. Strain the resulting composition, stir with 1 tsp. water. Take tincture inside for 1 tbsp. 1 hour before meals. Also, the resulting product can be instilled into a sore ear.

Use for otitis media

It is better to use geranium for the treatment of ear diseases along with other medicines. Combined therapy will allow you not to start the course of the disease and minimize the development of dangerous complications.

IMPORTANT: With otitis media, pus formation is more likely. To eliminate this symptom, it is important to receive antibiotic therapy in a timely manner. It is forbidden to drip a decoction in the ears if discharge of pus or blood from the ear canal is observed.

To alleviate the condition (after the permission of the doctor), you can prepare healing drops from geranium. To prepare them, you need to take crushed leaves, flowers and roots, boil the ingredients for 20 minutes. The solution is sucked, filtered and dripped into the sore ear 3 times a day. The tool can also rinse the nasal cavity (it is advisable with otitis media when patency of the auditory tube is impaired).
